Rally Norway paves the eco-way

Rally Norway congratulates Wales Rally GB, the final round of this year's FIA World Rally Championship, for achieving CarbonNeutral® event status, confirming that the event's carbon footprint is now 'net zero'.

– We are very pleased that Wales is serious about environmental issues and obviously willing to take eco-issues further than many other big sports events. We appreciate Wales Rally GB’s decision to take on a similar eco-focus as Rally Norway did when we first organised a WRC round in 2007 We think all WRC organisers should join Wales and Norway and enter a common agreement to make FIA World Rally Championship entirely climate neutral, says Even Wiger, Managing Director of Rally Norway.

Wales Rally GB has positioned itself at the forefront of a more sustainable future for motor sport by becoming the first British rally event to offset its carbon emissions, including all spectator travel, through a culmination of internal reductions and external offsetting.

In parallel, Rally Norway is strengthening its position as an advocate for carbon-neutral sports events. The Norwegian WRC organiser’s ambition is to be the most environmentally conscious sports event in Norway in any category.

– If our environmental involvement can promote a global change in the direction of a more environmentally conscious attitude in conventional motor sports internationally, we will have succeeded in our eco-efforts, says Even Wiger.
